Powerlifting

A sport with weight and age categories, recognised as a high-level sport and made up of 3 lifts:

The squat: the bar sits on the upper back and the athlete bends and extends the legs. The top surface of the thigh must go below horizontal.

The bench press: lying on the back, the athlete bends and extends the arms, with a pause on the chest.

The deadlift: the athlete extends the body, bringing the bar from the floor up to hip level, with arms and legs straight and knees and shoulders locked at the end of the lift.

In competition, athletes lift the heaviest load they can on each of the 3 lifts, with 3 attempts per lift. The final ranking adds together the best result on each lift.

Personal equipment is allowed but not compulsory: it provides protection and helps optimise performance (belts, shoes, suits, etc.).

Competition equipment: a platform, bars, free weights, and stands for the squat and bench press.
